Should Facebook (FB) Revisit WhatsApp as Possible Acquisition? Maybe...

If Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) were seriously considering making a solid acquisition, it might want to reconsider WhatsApp.

According to a post made on its official Twitter account, WhatsApp recorded a record 27 billion messages sent and received in 24 hours. Of the total, 10 billion were sent and 17 billion were received.

Numbers indicated broader user adaption and a strong position in the mobile market. Facebook might be able to integrate the technology into its own platform or even the recently-launched Home software for Android. The recent announcement that it would begin using hashtags in posts to help sort posts is only enhancing the "stickiness" of the social media giant.

Then again, Facebook might also purchase Snapchat. Many people like sharing photos and messages with each other, but don't necessarily want any incriminating evidence hanging around their social media profile. That's the bread-and-butter of Snapchat: images with captions that erase themselves in as little as one second after being opened.

Both platforms are hot right now and gunning to grab more attention of Facebook's user base. That is something investors should keep on their radars.

Shares of Facebook are lower in early trading Tuesday.
