There's no question that SINA Corp.'s (Nasdaq: SINA) Weibo is a fierce competitor to Twitter, but just how much are folks in China actually using the service?
Quite a lot, evidently.
According to data from SINA, about 393 million posts were made related to the Olympic games since the opening ceremony in late July. Of the total, 119 million were made during the opening ceremony.
By comparison, Twitter said 150 million Olympics-related tweets were made during the event, with about 9.66 million during the opening ceremony.
Methods of data gathering weren't disclosed, making a meaningful comparison tough.
TheNextWeb also noted new data from Sina Tech, showing that Weibo had 310 million visits to its website via PC access over the course of the Olympics. Second-place Tencent clocked 200 million, according to the data, Sohu.com (Nasdaq: SOHU) was third at 120 million and Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) fourth at 40 million. The four compromise the top micro-blogs in China.
SINA Corp. shares are 0.7 percent higher Monday morning.
