Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) plans provide online storage to consumers in efforts to shift personal computing to the Web, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The online storage service allows users to view their important data wherever they are and makes them much less dependent on a single hard drive. This should also increase Google's competition with Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), since a consumer will have less of a need for Microsoft's desktop software.
Personally, I can't wait for this new innovation from Google after my operating system just crashed and I have spent much money recovering data. Also, Google's new imap email program should also be a boon to people who want to access their email from anywhere, but do not possess an exchange server.
