Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows 10 May Lead to Gradual PC Upgrades

Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows 10 may see strong adaptation amongst the masses, as an upgrade is free for the first year of availability. But, PC vendors don't think the new operating system will revamp sales.

Digitimes cites PC supply chain sources in saying that demand is more likely to see a gradual rise in demand as hardware requirements for the new OS are relatively low.

According to Microsoft's own Windows 10 specifications page, the following hardware requirements are necessary:

Processor:

• 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC

RAM:

• 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit

Hard disk space:

• 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Graphics card:

• DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver

Display:

• 800x600

Anyone that has a PC which was bought within the last several years most likely meets all of these requirements.

Source say that some elements of Windows 10 will likely perform better with improved hardware requirements, which might cause users to upgrade over time.

Shares of Microsoft are up 0.5 percent Thursday.
