Microsoft (MSFT) Planning Surface RT Price Cuts Ahead of Refresher

July 11, 2013 3:31 PM EDT
Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) was in the news earlier for a massive shakeup of the company's management structure, but there's other news out for Mr. Softee today, as well.

TheVerge says that Microsoft is going to slash prices on its Surface RT tablet lineup, with implementation of the plan slated for sometime next week. Price cuts of $150 per model are expected, said sources.

With the Surface RT being about one year old, a replacement for the device isn't too far fetched. The next generation of Surface tablets is expected to have a smaller version and run on Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) Haswell architecture.

The following are expected to be the updated Surface RT prices:
  • Surface RT 32GB - $349.99
  • Surface RT 64GB - $449.99
  • Surface RT 32GB with Touch Cover - $449.99
  • Surface RT 64GB with Touch Cover - $549.99
Shares of Microsoft are at session highs, up 2.9 percent today.
