Sales of Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Surface RT tablet have been, well, light to say the least. The company took flak and a $900 million write-down last quarter due in part to RT sales, while Surface Pro sales haven't been anything to write home about either.
Microsoft then cut the price of its Surface RT by $150 last month, with an entry level version of the tablet starting at $350.
Today, WPCentral said that Microsoft has taken $40 off the price of its Touch Cover and will sell 32-GB and 64-GB bundles -- which include the Surface RT and black-only Touch Cover -- for $399 and $499, respectively. Those prices will remain permanent.
Pricing of the Surface Pro will also see a permanent $100 reduction, not starting at about $800.
No word on whether the moves are coming ahead of a product refresh, though Microsoft partner Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is said to be prepping the launch of a new Windows RT-based tablet later this year.
Shares of Microsoft are down 0.9 percent Friday.
