Microsoft (MSFT) Execs Nervous as Ballmer Sharpens Axe

June 24, 2013 8:48 AM EDT
Speculation of a management shake-up at Microsoft (MSFT) has be ongoing, but CEO Steve Ballmer might be putting the final touches in place.

AllThingsD said that much of the focus is on three execs:
  • Don Mattrick - Interactive Entertainment president;

  • Satya Nadella - Servers and Tools president; and

  • Tony Bates - Skype communications president.

Other names in the mix include Online Services president Qi Lu and Windows Phone head Terry Myerson.

Ballmer has been consulting with a small group of direct executives on the shift and may start making changes internally before the end of Microsoft's fiscal year (end of June), though nothing is set in stone. The hush-hush nature of the changes has many in management roles, even those that have been at Microsoft for years, a little nervous.

Microsoft will be holding its Build conference in San Francisco, CA, this week. Shares are down 0.9 percent early Monday.
