Madoff's Accountant Gets His Just Dues
With $65 billion Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff sitting behind bars, authorities are looking at accomplices that helped him perpetuate one of the largest scams in U.S. history. Today, Madoff's accountant, David Friehling, was arrested and charged with securities fraud. It is the first related arrest.
Friehling operated the Friehling & Horowitz accounting firm that occupied a 550-square foot space in New City, a northern suburb of New York City in Rockland County.
Friehling surrendered to authorities and faces a maximum 105 years in prison.
Authorities didn't accuse Friehling of knowing about Madoff's scheme, but rather that the deceived investors by falsely certifying that he had audited the financial statements.
