Speaking at an event at the company's headquarters in Palo Alto, California Wednesday afternoon, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a couple of interesting new features for the world's largest social networking platform.
Working with Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Skype, Facebook will now offer free video calling and multi-person chatting.
"We're using the best technology that's out there for doing video chat with the best social infrastructure that's out there in order to create some really cool new scenarios," Zuckerberg said.
Sources close to Zuckerberg said Facebook has been considering using Skype since 2010.
Shares of Micososft, which announced a deal to acquire Skype in May 2011, are up 0.86% in afternoon action to $26.25.
