At CES 2010 Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) unveiled its vision and progress toward developing an entirely new category of video communication, through what is called its Home TelePresence.
This will allow consumer's with any existing HDTV and high-speed Internet connection to deliver a natural world video communications experience from the comfort of any living room.
Cisco plans to enter U.S. homes with its TelePresence in the spring of 2010 with Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) as its initial partner. Other markets will be added later in 2010 including a planned partnership with France Telecom in the French market.
The company estimates that currently there are 32 million U.S. households that have the necessary HDTV and broadband internet communications to use Cisco's Telepresence.
