CNBC's 'Fab Five' Field Important Questions for 2012
CNBC’s self-proclaimed “Fab Five” recently gave predictions on a few debatable topics for the upcoming year.
Each member of the group -- Maria Bartiromo, Jim Cramer, Joe Kernen, Larry Kudlow, and Pete Najarian -- was asked the same five questions.
Will the euro zone stay intact?
While all five believe it will remain until at least next year, the consensus seems to be a "when" rather than an "if" for changes in the region. Maria notes a "willingness" in Europe to keep the Union together, while Cramer highlights a "vested interest" for all as current leaders don’t want to see Europe return to similar conditions that prompted WWI and WWII. Kudlow may have been the most inspiring, saying investors and analysts are going to look back at this time and say it wasn’t a crisis at all, rather a "muddle through." That being said, I'd hate to see a crisis in the eyes of Kudlow.
Will the White House change hands?
The next question comes as the republicans try to figure out who has the best chance to beat President Obama in the next presidential election. The Fab Five didn’t agree on this one. Cramer was the black sheep saying he feels President Obama will top Romney and retain his presidential seat for another four years. No one else gave their prediction on who the republican candidate will be, but all said Mr. Obama will be standing in the unemployment line next year. Najarian said the current economic malaise will be the driving decision in people’s votes. Kudlow anticipates the House and Senate will also see leadership changes alongside the White House.
Will Occupy Wall Street sentiment grow, fade, or stay the same?
Each save Maria believe it will fade over the next. The original "Money Honey" said the movement at the end of next year will be as strong as it is today "but there will be ups and downs along the way." Kudlow may have nailed it: “First of all, Occupy Wall Street is increasingly going to be Occupy Jail. That’s where they belong and that’s where most of them are going. The Occupy Wall Street movement, which was embraced by President Obama, is going to come back and haunt him in this election year."
Will gold break $2,000?
While Kernen and Kudlow don’t believe the price of gold will top this level, the mad man Cramer of course believes it will, along with Maria and Najarian. Cramer cites the European bailouts. Kudlow believes gold has already peaked and is now overvalued.
Will Kim Kardashian marry again in the coming year?
Kernen’s prediction calls for Kim to marry Justin Bieber and creating the first “baby boy” band with quadruplets. Najarian, who also has an Armenian last name, said this will only happen if he is single and has the time to get married. Maria anticipates the lessons learned from her first marriage will have her remaining single for sometime. Really Maria? You think Kim is the type of person who learns from her mistakes?
Following these answers, CNBC may be looking to update its "Fab Five" to Simon Hobbs, Herb Greenberg, Michelle Caruso Cabrera, Melisa Lee and Rick Santelli. Everyone knows David Faber is too busy breaking actual news and Mandy is too busy just doin' her thing...
