Mobile search is taking an interesting twist, which could adversely affect Google in the long run.
According to a post by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech (@KWP_ComTech), about 92 percent of Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android users stick with Google as their primary search. Interestingly, about 58 percent of Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone owners use Bing even when Google is readily available.
What does that mean? It means that every 10 percent gain in smartphone market share Windows Phone makes means Google is losing about 6 percent of mobile search traffic.
Of course, Google still dominates desktop and laptop searches and commands the global handset scene. But, as users start to adapt to Windows 8.X, many might move to keep a similar interface on their smartphone. That could be troubling for Google down the road.
Shares of Microsoft are lower, while Google is positive on the session.
