Apple (AAPL) Watch has Hard Time Finding Fans in Key Demographic

April 15, 2015 6:56 AM UTC

Popularity of the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) Apple Watch might be waning in one of its most important demographics, just as sales of the device have commenced.

9to5mac cites a recent note from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who notes that interest among teens in the Apple Watch remains low.

Munster's October 2014 survey revealed that just 16 percent of teenagers were planning to buy an Apple Watch and that number has dropped to 11 percent with the latest poll. Style and design were noted as the two main factors for purchase by the teens, while fitness tracking, which has been heavily touted by Apple, received positive indications from less than half of respondents.

Despite that lagging demand for the Watch by teens, Munster's survey also revealed that the iPhone and iPad were the two most desirable devices in their respective categories.

Shares of Apple are indicated higher in early trading Wednesday.
