Amazon.com (AMZN) Trims-Back Viacom (VIAB) Offerings as 'Reality' TV Audience Shrinks

Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is said to be dropping several Viacom (Nasdaq: VIAB) shows as viewership of reality programming continues to ebb.

Bloomberg said that Viacom shows being dropped include Teen Mom and Mob Wives.

Amazon is expected to spend more money on original programming and on other vendors for its Prime Instant Video service.

Along with Viacom, Amazon is said to have dropped a renewal agreement with A+E Networks, which provided such shows at Pawn Stars and Storage Wars.

Amazon acquired the content from Viacom in mid-June as Viacom's agreement with Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) expired. The deal is said to have been valued at about $200 million.

Shares of Amazon are positive early Thursday.
