Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is planning to open its first physical retail location in time for this year's holiday shopping season.

The WSJ said Thursday that Amazon will open a store at 7 West 34th Street, across from the Empire State Building in Manhattan. The location would act as a 'mini warehouse' with same day delivery in New York. The store would also handle product returns, exchanges, and allow customers to pickup online orders.

Amazon will also be able to showcase its latest product offerings, including the Fire smartphone, Fire TV, and Kindle e-readers.

Success means Amazon could expand its physical location into other U.S. cities.

Notably, the Empire State Building attracted 4.3 million visitors last year.

Shares of Amazon are down 2 percent.
