Amazon (AMZN) to Launch Armada of Kindles, Will Include Larger Version

What's better than having one of something new? That's right, having three.

According to CENS.com, Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is planning to launch three new models of its wildly popular (*cough*) Kindle e-Readers.

CENS.com noted manufacturers involved in the process may include "Quanta and Hon Hai for assembly orders, Prime View and Chimei Innolux for FPD (flat panel display) supply, and Chimei Innolux for exclusive supply of 7” touch sensors."

The three new models will include:
  • a bare-bones 7-inch model with 1024x600 pixel resolution;
  • a better 7-inch model with 1280x800 resolution; and
  • a high-end 8.9-inch model with 1920x1200 resolution.
The move comes as Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) new iPad is still seeing smoking-hot demand from consumers.

Amazon building a larger version of its Kindle will certainly appeal to more consumers. Many love the Kindle Fire for its value and ability: it really doesn't try to be anything more than a media consumption device. Watching Amazon Prime videos or Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) on a larger, higher-resolution screen will be a key sales point for Amazon moving forward.

It wasn't noted when production will begin, but prepping a new lineup ahead of the holiday 2012 shopping season makes the most sense.

Shares of Amazon are indicated higher Tuesday. On Monday the stock pushed above $200 for the first time since last November.
