Amazon (AMZN) Sold Tons of Kindles on Cyber Monday... Maybe

Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is still more mysterious than a Tibetan monk, yet less alluring than a geisha.

According to a release from the company earlier today, Cyber Monday was the biggest sales day for its Kindle lineup... ever! Once again, no specific numbers were given out.

Were the sales just 10,000 units, Bezos? Over 3 million? More??

Bezos?!?

The numbers are important because it hints at how widespread the Kindle is getting, which may determine Amazon's influence and its potential to move into wireless with some sort of Kindle smartphone (our proposed name is "Kindle a-Go-Go: Light a fire under that conversation!").

Overall, it appears the consumer liked the $129 Kindle Fire (with ads), as Amazon said consumers "flocked to the deal." Some other key, not-too-specific stats:
* Kindle Fire HD is the most gifted and most wished for product on Amazon worldwide since launch.
* The top 4 spots on the worldwide Amazon best sellers list since launch nearly three months ago are Kindle e-readers and Kindle Fires.
* 9 out of the top 10 best-selling products on Amazon worldwide since 9/6 are Kindles, Kindle accessories and digital content.

We're still not sure why Amazon doesn't change its URL to KindleFireandOtherStuff.com. Shares are down a modest 0.5 percent Tuesday.
