Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) largely has two main operating systems: Chrome for notebooks and PCs and Android for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
But, ne'er the twain shall meet?
According to Acer chairman JT Wang, the Chrome and Android will eventually become one operating system. He didn't issue a specific time line of when the event will happen.
While Chrome has strong security, Android is known for its openness. Wang commented, "We’ll have to see how they’ll balance the middle ground between more open and more secure" before making any further speculation.
Shares of Google are up slightly Friday.
