A 'Daughter' Graduates to 'Mother' (HLF)

The big news Monday is the developing story that the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is about to give birth to Prince William's first child - thereby graduating the duchess from daughter to mother.

While certainly big news for royal-watchers, there is a separate daughter to mother story developing --- this one though for stock market watchers.

Last week in his interview from CNBC's Delivering Alpha conference, Carl Icahn described his significant portfolio position in Herbalife (NYSE: HLF) as already the "daughter of all short squeezes," not quite yet the "mother of all short squeezes."

At the conference, Icahn poked fun at Bill Ackman - who is massively short the stock - saying he likes Ackman now. "I like Ackman," Mr. Icahn said. "I'll tell you why I like him. Anyone that makes me a quarter of a billion I like."

With shares of Herbalife up 3.2% mid-day Monday, after tapping an new high of $58 mid-day, it sure looks like the squeeze is moving from the daughter to mother stage. You could say HLF is 'in labor.'
