AMC Entertainment reports strongest pre-christmas weekend since 2021
AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AMC) reported its strongest pre-Christmas weekend performance since 2021, with more than 4 million moviegoers visiting AMC and ODEON Cinemas locations from Thursday through Sunday.
The attendance surge was driven primarily by the opening of "Avatar: Fire & Ash," which generated $88 million domestically and $345 million globally during the weekend. At AMC's U.S. theaters, approximately 67% of admissions revenue for the film came from premium 3D formats including IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema 3D, and RealD 3D screenings.
The domestic box office showed depth across multiple titles, with five different films reportedly earning at least $14 million each over the weekend. New releases "David," "The Housemaid," and "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants," along with holdover title "Zootopia 2," all reached the $14 million threshold.
"James Cameron, his cast and crew, and the incredible team at Disney have done it yet again," said AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron. "Avatar: Fire & Ash is a true cinematic masterpiece that must be seen on the big screen."
AMC operates approximately 860 theaters with 9,600 screens globally, making it the largest movie exhibition company in the United States and worldwide. The company's international ODEON Cinemas locations contributed to the weekend's performance alongside its domestic theaters.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
