Trump Looks to Close Hedge Fund, Private Equity Tax Loophole
Donald Trump took it to hedge funds and private equity firms over the weekend, vowing to close a loophole which allows the institutions to pay a lower capital gains tax rate versus income tax.
Speaking on CBS television, Trump said he would move to end the carried interest loophole,
which has been widely supported by both parties.
Trump commented, They are energetic. They are very smart. But a lot of them — they are paper-pushers. They make a fortune. They pay no tax. It's ridiculous, OK? ... The hedge fund guys didn't build this country. These are guys that shift paper around and they get lucky.
Some of them are friends of mine, some of them I couldn't care less about ... It's the wrong thing. These guys are getting away with murder. I want to lower the rates for the middle class,
Trump noted.
