Premarket movers: AMD upgraded, Bloom energy surges
Investing.com - U.S. stock futures pointed higher on Tuesday, as investors looked ahead to key inflation data and Nvidia’s quarterly results later this week for fresh clues on the outlook for interest rates and the artificial intelligence trade.
By 06:12 ET (10:12 GMT), the Dow futures contract had risen by 248 points, or 0.5%, S&P 500 futures had gained 39 points, or 0.5%, and Nasdaq 100 futures had climbed 296 points, or 1.0%.
In individual stock moves, Shift4 Payments shares rose 3.4% in premarket trading after Wells Fargo upgraded the payments technology company to Overweight from Equal Weight and set a $59 price target. The move reflects the bank’s view that the stock is undervalued relative to peers and its longer-term growth prospects.
Advanced Micro Devices shares climbed 2.5% before the open after Raymond James upgraded the chipmaker to Strong Buy from Outperform and raised its price target to $641 from $565.
The firm highlighted AMD’s positioning in the AI server CPU market, which it expects to grow at a 44% compound annual rate over five years and reach roughly $201 billion in revenue by 2030. Raymond James pointed to expanding data-center capacity, demand for CPUs that coordinate AI accelerators and the emergence of agentic computing workloads as key growth drivers.
Bloom Energy shares surged 6.4% in premarket trading after congressional financial disclosures showed that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi established a new position in the clean-energy company.
The disclosures showed purchases of 15,000 Bloom Energy Class A shares across July 24 and July 28, alongside 200 call options with a $100 strike price expiring in June 2027. The transactions were reported in ranges required under congressional disclosure rules, putting the combined value of the position at between roughly $4.25 million and $14.5 million.
Pelosi also disclosed purchases of Intel shares and call options. Intel is a Bloom Energy customer for data-center power, linking the trades to the broader investment theme around electricity demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Brenx shares jumped 15.1% in premarket trading to $4.81, extending a period of sharp volatility in the micro-cap clean-energy company. No company-specific announcement dated Tuesday was identified as a direct catalyst for the move, with the stock instead continuing to attract speculative interest following a major corporate overhaul completed earlier this month.
T3 Defense shares soared 64.3% before the open after Noble Financial initiated coverage with a Buy rating and raised its price target to $30 from $20, adding fresh bullish sentiment to one of the Nasdaq’s more volatile names.
The move came as a bearish report from Fugazi Research also circulated, questioning T3 Defense’s financial performance, capital structure and acquisition strategy and arguing that recent growth has been driven largely by capital markets activity and equity issuance rather than sustainable operations.
Investors appeared to focus instead on the company’s operating momentum. Its Rimon subsidiary generated a record $2.6 million in revenue in July, taking year-to-date revenue to about $5.25 million, already above the $4.6 million generated during all of 2025.
The sharp move in T3 Defense was accompanied by a volatility-related trading halt before shares resumed trading, underscoring the heightened speculative activity surrounding the stock.
The broader market remained focused on the upcoming inflation data and Nvidia’s results, with the technology-heavy Nasdaq futures leading the premarket advance. Nvidia’s report is expected to provide a major test of whether the enormous spending on AI infrastructure can continue to support elevated valuations across the technology sector.
