Possible Greece Bailout Lifts Stocks
Futures are higher on speculation the European Union is considering a rescue package for embattled debtor-nation Greece.
After finishing below the 10,000 level, Dow futures are pointing to a move back above that level.
Speculation of a Greek-bailout gained steam after ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet announced plans to leave an event in Australia earlier than expected to attend a European Union Council meeting Thursday.
Despite the speculation, Greek Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou said he wasn't aware of any EU plan to aid Greece. Papaconstantinou also said the country won't ask for outside help, saying this would be the "worst possible signal."
Greece is also making plans to tackle the deficit. The country confirmed it will raise the average retirement age by two years to 63 years and may also overhaul the tax system.
