Oppenheimer sees positive outlook for psychedelics after FDA hearing
Investing.com -- Oppenheimer said Wednesday that a recent FDA public hearing on psychedelics medicine created a supportive regulatory environment for potential approvals and market access. The firm maintains its positive stance on CMPS and DFTX.
The hearing brought together physicians, industry representatives, and advocates who emphasized the urgent need to address mental health treatment gaps while establishing strict safety and risk management protocols.
Oppenheimer's conversations with biotechnology companies and investors after the hearing indicated growing confidence in the FDA's openness to psychedelics treatments, though the agency is expected to maintain appropriate safety standards.
The firm expects near-term commercial launches of CMPS's COMP360, which uses psilocybin, and DFTX's DT120, which uses LSD. Future product labeling and Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies are likely to address real-world factors including patient monitoring and insurance coverage as companies prepare for commercialization.
Earlier-stage companies in the psychedelics field may benefit from regulatory precedents established by these approvals. Oppenheimer noted that recent policy changes and increased merger and acquisition activity provide additional support for the psychedelics sector.
