Airbnb adds social features and AI tools to trip planning

Investing.com -- Airbnb rolled out new features on Wednesday that allow users to share travel recommendations with connections and use AI throughout the booking process.

The platform now lets guests connect with family, friends, and past travel companions to view their stays and recommendations. An interactive travel map displays where connections have been and their future destinations. Users can explore homes their connections booked, read their reviews, save listings to a wishlist, or send direct messages. Privacy controls allow users to choose which trips they share and with whom.

In the US, AI features now cover each stage of trip planning. Guests can search and filter using their own words, view AI-generated descriptions of key home features in search results, and compare saved homes side by side. AI-powered chat support is available in more than 50 languages, with voice support launching in the US.

Airbnb Services is adding new categories to make trips easier after arrival. The expansion includes meal and grocery delivery across Europe, laundry services through Rinse and baby gear rentals with BabyQuip in the US, and local rentals such as ski equipment in the French Alps and boats in South Florida.

Later this fall, new AI-powered tools will launch for hosts. A multi-listing calendar will enable hosts to update pricing, availability, cancellation policies, or discounts across multiple listings simultaneously. Dynamic pricing will suggest rates based on real-time supply and demand with explanations for each recommendation. An AI earnings dashboard will summarize performance and provide suggested actions. Interactive 3D floor plans will help guests understand a home's layout before booking.

Shares of Airbnb rose 3% in early trading on Wednesday. They are up 15.6% year-to-date, but well off 52-week high levels as high oil prices crimp travel plans.
