As the presidential election goes into the final stretch, the incumbent was dealt some not so pleasant news on the jobs front.

Initial jobless claims jumped to 388,000 last week. Economists were calling for new claims of 365,000. Compared to last week, jobless claims climbed 46,000. However, last week's claims data may have been flawed, since one state failed to report.

The 4-week moving average was 365,500, an increase of 750 from the previous week's revised average of 364,750.
