Initial Claims Fall to 339K, Missing Views on Continued Choppy Recovery

Americans filing for unemployment benefits fell last week, but missed expectations as the economy continues to be in a choppy recovery.
The U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday that initial jobless claims fell 2,000 to 339,000 for the week ending November 9th. Consensus estimates were looking for a drop to 330,000 apps, according to the latest market data.
The four-week rolling initial claims average fell 5,750 to 344,000 last week.
Those on continued benefits were flat at 2.87 million. Americans on emergency benefits fell 37,000 to 1.33 million for the week ending October 26th.
Thirty-three states and territories reported an increase in claims, while 20 reported a decrease.
Nonfarm payrolls for October came in at 204,000, easily topping expectations. The retail segment led the way, with additions of 44,400 positions last month.
