ISM Manufacturing for March Nears 7-Year High
Manufacturing in the U.S. expanded at nearly the fastest pace in almost seven years in March, signaling the industry will continue to push a recovery of the world's largest economy.
The Institute for Supply Management reported Friday its manufacturing index dipped fractionally to 61.2 in March from a reading of 61.4 in the prior month.
The reading was just ahead of the economist estimate of 61.1.
The measure of orders waiting to be filled dropped to 52.9 from 59, while the inventory index eased from 47.4 from 48.8.
The ISM report, along with other favorable economic data, has pushed the U.S. markets higher in early trade Friday. The Dow is up 80 points to 12,398, while the S&P has gained 9 points to nearly 1,335.
