ADP data shows U.S. private hiring averaged 16,250 jobs per week

September 15, 2026 8:15 AM EDT

U.S. private employers added an average of 16,250 jobs per week for the four weeks ending Aug. 29, 2026, according to a preliminary estimate from the ADP National Employment Report (NER) Pulse, published by ADP (NASDAQ: ADP).

The figure marks the second consecutive week of increased hiring. The prior four-week moving average, for the period ending Aug. 22, stood at 12,250 jobs per week, up from 10,000 for the week ending Aug. 15.

The weekly figures, which are seasonally adjusted and carry a two-week lag, have trended lower compared to earlier in the summer. The four-week moving average peaked at 24,250 for the week ending June 13, before declining to 19,750 by June 27 and falling further through July and into August.

ADP noted the estimates are preliminary and subject to revision as additional data becomes available. The NER Pulse is based on a four-week moving average of week-over-week employment changes derived from ADP's payroll data.

The report is produced by ADP Research in collaboration with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. The next NER Pulse is scheduled for release on Sept. 22, 2026.
