Alexion (Nasdaq: ALXN) peers moved higher on rumors Roche was targeting the company. Gainers include BioMarin Pharma (Nasdaq: BMRN), Seattle Genetics (Nasaq: SGEN), and Vertex (Nasdaq: VRTX), InterMune Inc. (Nasdaq: ITMN), Immunomedics Inc. (Nasdaq: IMMU), Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: ARIA), and Pharmacyclics Inc. (Nasdaq: PCYC), Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: REGN), among others.
Reports say Roche is seeking billions of dollars in financing for a potential takeover of Alexion, according to Bloomberg sources.
ProShares Ultra Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (Nasdaq: BIB) jumped 4%.
