ETF Securities Introduces New Precious Metals ETF (GLTR) (GLD, SLV, PPLT, PALL)

October 22, 2010 12:54 PM EDT
It's no secret that precious metals have been the de facto alternative to investing in the stock market over the last year or so. Prices of gold have nearly doubled, from around $750/ounce in late 2008 to records of over $1300/ounce recently. Silver prices have more than doubled, from under $10/ounce in 2008 to over $23/ounce.

But what if you want all of the glitz and glamour of investing in precious metals, but you don't have enough cash to invest in all your favorites? What if there were some way, just some way, to get all of the best alternative metal investments in one, easy to trade investment vehicle?

Thanks to ETF Securities, that ETF is available now.

The ETF, named ETFS Physical Precious Metal Basket Shares (NYSE: GLTR), contains gold, silver, platinum and palladium in fixed weights. The ETP holds actual amounts of the metals in a J.P. Morgan Chase Bank vault. All of the bullion confirms to the London Bullion Market Association's and London Platinum and Palladium Market Association's rules for Good Delivery.

The gold and silver will be held in London, and platinum and palladium held in London or Zurich.

So, you can now throw out your SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD), iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV), ETFS Physical Platinum Shares (NYSE: PPLT), and ETFS Physical Palladium Shares (NYSE: PALL)...there's a new sheriff in town!
