Ripple announced it will acquire Rail, a stablecoin-powered global payments platform, for $200 million. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Rail processes business payments internationally using stablecoins and is forecasted to handle over 10% of the $36 billion global B2B stablecoin payments market in 2025, according to the company's CEO Bhanu Kohli.

The acquisition will integrate Rail's virtual accounts and automated back-office infrastructure with Ripple's existing payment network and digital asset liquidity services. Ripple operates with more than 60 licenses across various jurisdictions for regulatory compliance.

"Stablecoins are quickly becoming a cornerstone of modern finance, and with Rail, we are uniquely positioned to drive the next phase of innovation and adoption of stablecoins and blockchain in global payments," said Monica Long, Ripple President.

The combined platform will offer stablecoin payment services without requiring customers to hold cryptocurrency on their balance sheets. Services will include USD payments, third-party payment processing, and treasury management functions through a single platform.

Rail's technology enables customers to transact with digital assets without opening dedicated crypto bank accounts or exchange wallets. The platform operates continuously through a single API connection.

Ripple has invested over $3 billion in acquisitions and strategic opportunities to date, according to the press release. The company provides payment infrastructure supporting various digital assets including RLUSD and XRP.
