Wrap Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: WRAP) announced the development of Project PAN-DA, a handheld counter-drone system based on its BolaWrap 150 platform. The company released a Phase One proof-of-concept video demonstrating the system's capability to engage small unmanned aircraft systems at close range.

The Personal Anti-Drone Armament system uses Wrap's existing tether-and-anchor technology, which is currently deployed by more than 1,000 law enforcement agencies worldwide. The handheld device is designed to be compact, reloadable, and belt-carried for immediate deployment against drone threats.

Project PAN-DA represents Wrap's second counter-unmanned aircraft systems initiative. The system utilizes existing BolaWrap cassette technology to enable multiple engagements per unit. The company positions the product as an alternative to missile interceptors, expendable drones, and electronic jamming systems.

"PAN-DA builds on the proven BolaWrap platform, which we believe will give operators a lightweight, reliable, and non-lethal means of defending themselves and their environment from drone threats," said Michael Brown, Vice President of Products at Wrap Technologies.

The global counter-drone market is projected to grow from $1.9 billion in 2023 to more than $6.8 billion by 2030, according to market research cited by the company. The growth is attributed to increased use of small unmanned aircraft systems in criminal and military activities.

Following the Phase One milestone, Wrap's engineering teams plan to review data and develop enhancements in range, area-of-effect, and cassette cost. The company aims to adapt the system for military environments through these planned improvements.
