Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW) opened a 15,000 square-foot rapid capabilities facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to develop space-based defense systems.
The Firestone Rapid Capabilities Facility will support strategic systems assembly, integration and testing, along with structural, mechanical and thermal spacecraft subsystems. The facility will also handle launch and ground support equipment for proliferated space applications and advanced analysis and testing methods for national security purposes.
The new facility will support work under Redwire's $45 million, five-year cost-plus-fixed-fee contract with the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate. The contract covers design, development and testing of prototype software and hardware for mission critical technologies.
Redwire maintains an existing presence in the Albuquerque region as a partner for the Air Force Research Laboratory. The facility will serve government customers including AFRL, the U.S. Space Force's Space Rapid Capabilities Office, Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratories, as well as commercial aerospace and defense partners.
"The modernization of America's space-based defense systems requires the rapid development of new capabilities and advanced systems to ensure we keep our nation secure," said Peter Cannito, chairman and CEO of Redwire.
The Jacksonville, Florida-based company operates as an integrated space and defense technology company with approximately 1,300 employees across the United States and Europe.
