Rapid7, Inc. (NASDAQ: RPD) announced the launch of Rapid7 Intelligence, a platform that combines threat intelligence, vulnerability research, and the company's existing Rapid7 Labs unit into a single engine intended to shift enterprise cybersecurity from reactive monitoring to proactive threat prevention.
The platform builds on Rapid7 Labs' 13-year history and is designed to translate attacker behavior data into automated protective actions across Rapid7's existing products, managed detection and response (MDR) services, and exposure management offerings.
Alongside the product announcement, Rapid7 researchers disclosed a finding involving a modular Linux malware ecosystem targeting telecom and network-edge devices. The research identified new BPFDoor variants, BPF Rekoobe, droppers, and AVERAT implants linked across two separate campaigns. Researchers noted the campaigns shared a tactic of using SMTP traffic to blend into victim networks, target mail security appliances, and maintain persistent access. The company said the BPFDoor malware family appears to be evolving, with samples tailored to specific layers of telecom infrastructure.
"Static threat intelligence isn't completely dead—it's just sitting in standard dashboards doing what it's always done, giving organizations a false sense of security while autonomous threat agents burn down their perimeters," said Christiaan Beek, Vice President of Rapid7 Intelligence.
Mel Stone, Chief Global Services Officer at Rapid7, said the platform "fuses machine-scale observation with frontline human expertise" to convert threat data into actionable intelligence.
Rapid7 tracked 8,539 critical vulnerabilities in the second quarter, according to the company's press release. The platform is intended to address what Rapid7 describes as shrinking exploitation windows resulting from increased attacker use of automation.
Rapid7 Intelligence will also maintain open access to Metasploit resources, vulnerability advisories, and exploitation research, the company said. Rapid7 serves more than 11,500 customers worldwide.
