NetApp and Supermicro announce AI infrastructure partnership

NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) announced a collaboration with Supermicro to deliver jointly validated AI infrastructure solutions targeting AI factories, enterprise deployments, neoclouds, and sovereign AI initiatives, according to a company press release.

The partnership combines Supermicro's rack-scale compute, networking, and liquid-cooling systems with NetApp's data management platform. The companies said the jointly tested infrastructure is intended to shorten design and integration cycles and reduce deployment risk for customers moving AI environments into production.

As part of the collaboration, NetApp and Supermicro will deliver NetApp Novus Data Director software running on qualified Supermicro servers alongside NetApp AFF A90 systems. The architecture separates metadata and data planes, allowing each to scale independently within a single namespace.

The two companies are also collaborating on NetApp AIPod with Supermicro, a validated converged infrastructure solution based on Nvidia reference architecture guidance. The solution is designed to support AI training, inference, and agentic workloads ranging from dozens to hundreds of GPUs, delivered through NetApp's channel partner network.

"Supermicro and NetApp have collaborated to offer AI-optimized, rack-scale infrastructure with intelligent data infrastructure built for governance, cyber resilience, sovereignty, and hybrid cloud flexibility," said Matthew Thauberger, Chief Revenue Officer at Supermicro.

Alvaro Celis, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial, Partner and Ecosystem Officer at NetApp, said the combination is intended to give customers "secure, reliable AI solutions they can deploy quickly."

NetApp noted that statements regarding unreleased offerings and future plans are subject to change and should not be relied upon for purchasing decisions.
