Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP) announced the expansion of its maXTouch M1 touchscreen controller family with two new products designed to cover a broader range of automotive display sizes, from 2-inch to 42-inch screens.

The company introduced the ATMXT3072M1-HC and ATMXT288M1 controllers, which support emerging display technologies including organic light emitting diodes and microLEDs. The controllers utilize Microchip's Smart Mutual touch acquisition technology and algorithms to improve touch signal-to-noise ratio by up to 15 dB compared to previous generations.

The ATMXT3072M1-HC targets large, continuous touch sensor designs that cover both cluster and center information displays. The product addresses left-hand and right-hand drive vehicles with a single hardware design, appearing as a single device to the host microcontroller unit.

The ATMXT288M1 is designed for compact automotive displays such as analog clocks and AI driver assistants. The controller features a Thin Profile Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array package that reduces printed circuit board area by 20 percent compared to the previous smallest automotive-qualified maXTouch product. This represents the first TFBGA package in the M1 family.

"Fueled by evolving user expectations and the rise of software-defined vehicles, automotive cockpit displays are rapidly changing, and OEMs are pushing the boundaries in size, shape and technology to deliver more immersive and intuitive user experiences," said Giovanni Fontana, director of Microchip's human machine interface division.

Both controllers are supported by Microchip's maXTouch development ecosystem, including the maXTouch Studio integrated development environment and maXTouch Analyzer for production testing. Host software driver support is available for multiple operating systems including Linux, Android, Windows, AliOS, Automotive QNX and Zephyr.

The company stated that pricing and sample orders are available through Microchip sales representatives and authorized distributors.
