Albertsons names Meg Whitman as executive chair

Albertsons Companies, Inc. (NYSE: ACI) has appointed Meg Whitman to the newly created role of Executive Chair of its Board of Directors, the company announced.

With Whitman's appointment, Kim Fennebresque has transitioned from Chair to Lead Independent Director, and the board has expanded from 10 to 11 members. Whitman will also serve as an operations and strategic advisor to CEO Susan Morris and her senior team.

Whitman previously served as President and CEO of eBay, Inc. from 1998 to 2008, during which the company's annual revenue grew from $30 million to more than $8 billion. She later led Hewlett-Packard from 2011 to 2018 and served as CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. She also served as U.S. Ambassador to Kenya from July 2022 until November 2024.

Whitman currently sits on the boards of CoreWeave, Inc., Motive Technologies and Fervo Energy. She has previously served on the boards of Procter & Gamble and General Motors.

"Meg has a remarkable track record of helping companies strengthen execution, accelerate growth and create long-term value," Morris said in a statement.

Albertsons operates 2,240 retail stores across 35 states and the District of Columbia under 22 banners, including Albertsons, Safeway and Vons.
