Agilent launches compact Cary 635 FTIR spectrometer

Agilent Technologies (NYSE: A) has launched the Cary 635 FTIR spectrometer, a compact Fourier transform infrared analysis instrument aimed at laboratory use across multiple industries.

According to the company, the instrument uses solid ZnSe optical components to improve moisture resistance and features permanently aligned optics that allow sampling modules to be swapped quickly. The system supports analysis of solids, liquids, powders, and gases through a modular architecture.

Agilent claims the Cary 635 is the smallest FTIR in its class. The instrument includes a nondynamic interferometer designed to reduce maintenance requirements and improve operational consistency.

The spectrometer ships with Agilent's MicroLab software, which provides picture-guided, step-by-step workflows and color-coded results intended to reduce training time for new users. An optional DialPath module is available for liquid transmission measurements, including viscous samples, and is designed to eliminate the need for traditional transmission cells.

"Laboratories are under increasing pressure to deliver reliable results while maximizing efficiency and laboratory resources," said Geoff Winkett, vice president and general manager of the Spectroscopy Solutions Division at Agilent. "The Cary 635 FTIR was designed to help address those challenges by combining powerful analytical performance in a compact footprint with the flexibility and intuitive operation needed to support a wide range of users and applications."

Agilent reported revenue of $6.95 billion in fiscal year 2025 and employs approximately 18,000 people worldwide.
