Celanese Corporation (NYSE: CE) announced that Scott Sutton has resigned from its board of directors following his appointment as chief executive officer of Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc.

The Dallas-based chemical and specialty materials company stated that Sutton's departure from the board was connected to his new CEO position. Sutton had previously worked as an employee at Celanese before joining its board.

"Scott leveraged his deep industry and company experience and immediately contributed to the Board's oversight of the aggressive actions taken by management," said Scott Richardson, CEO and president of Celanese Corporation, according to the company's statement.

Sutton commented on his departure, stating it had been "a pleasure serving on the Celanese Board and working alongside my fellow Directors and the management team to strengthen the Company's foundation and advance its strategic priorities."

Celanese reported 2024 net sales of $10.3 billion and employs more than 11,000 people worldwide. The company produces specialty material solutions used across major industries and consumer applications.

The resignation leaves Celanese with its remaining board members to continue oversight of the company's operations. Richardson expressed confidence that the board would continue its strategic execution and value creation efforts for shareholders.
