Recursion names Fred Hassan as new board chair

Recursion (NASDAQ: RXRX), a clinical-stage drug discovery company, has appointed Fred Hassan as chair of its board of directors, effective October 31, 2026, according to a company statement.

Hassan brings more than four decades of pharmaceutical industry experience, having previously served as chair and chief executive officer of Schering-Plough Corporation from 2003 to 2009 and of Pharmacia Corporation from 2001 to 2003. He also held executive roles at Wyeth and Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, now part of Novartis.

Hassan currently serves as a director at Warburg Pincus LLC, a role he has held since 2010, and as executive chair of Norstella, a pharmaceutical intelligence company, since January 2026. He also serves as lead independent director of BridgeBio Pharma.

Najat Khan, president and chief executive officer of Recursion, said Hassan's experience would bring perspective "as we advance from clinical proof of concept through approval and launch."

Rob Hershberg, the outgoing board chair, will remain on the board. Hershberg said the board "unanimously believes" Hassan is the right person for the chair role.

Hassan holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Imperial College London and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
