Firy Inc. appoints Avenue Capital's Marc Lasry to its board

Firy Inc. (NYSE: FIRY), formerly known as Skillz Inc., has appointed Marc Lasry to its Board of Directors as an independent director, effective Oct. 1, 2026, according to a company statement.

Lasry is the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Avenue Capital Group, a global investment firm with approximately $9.2 billion in assets under management. Avenue Capital focuses primarily on specialty lending, opportunistic credit, and other special situations investments. Lasry co-founded the firm in 1995.

Lasry's connection to the company predates its public listing. He participated as an investor in the $15 million Series B round raised by Skillz in September 2015, alongside Wildcat Capital Management and The Kraft Group.

Beyond finance, Lasry was a co-owner of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks from 2014 to 2023 and launched the Avenue Sports Fund in 2023. He holds a B.A. in history from Clark University and a J.D. from New York Law School.

In a separate announcement, the company said Gary A. Vecchiarelli will transition from the Board of Directors to the role of Board Advisor, also effective Oct. 1, 2026.

Firy Inc. describes itself as a global holding company operating through a portfolio that includes Skillz, RZR, and Beamable.
