BioCryst forms seven-member scientific advisory board

BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: BCRX) announced the formation of a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) comprising seven members with backgrounds in rare disease research and drug development, according to a company statement.
The SAB will provide guidance on pipeline expansion, external innovation opportunities, translational science, clinical development, and regulatory strategy. The board will be chaired by Anthony Manning, PhD, Principal at Manning Bio Worldwide, LLC, who previously served as Chief Scientific Officer at Momenta Pharmaceuticals.
Other members include Christine Bulawa, PhD, who was involved in the preclinical development of tafamidis for transthyretin amyloidosis; Eric A. Hughes, MD, PhD, currently Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Teva Pharmaceuticals; Stephanie Noviello, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer at ILiAD Biotechnologies; Shashi Ramaiah, DVM, PhD, Founder and CEO of SPECCRO; Art Taveras, PhD, a biopharmaceutical executive with over 35 years of industry experience; and Ajay Yekkirala, PhD, co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Superluminal Medicines.
"External innovation is increasingly central to how we build our pipeline, and guidance from leading scientists and physicians will sharpen our thinking and strengthen the diligence behind each program we evaluate and advance," said Dr. Sandeep Menon, BioCryst's Chief Research and Development Officer.
BioCryst, based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., focuses on rare disease therapeutics and currently markets ORLADEYO (berotralstat) for hereditary angioedema.
