Beneficient chairman Thomas Hicks passes at 79
Beneficient (NASDAQ: BENF) announced that Thomas O. Hicks, chairman of its board of directors, died on December 6 at age 79.
Hicks co-founded private equity firms Hicks & Haas in 1984 and Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst in 1989. He served on Beneficient's board since 2017 and became chairman in July 2025.
The Dallas-based executive previously owned the Dallas Stars hockey team and Texas Rangers baseball team. He played a role in developing the American Airlines Center and served as founding chairman of the University of Texas Investment Management Company.
Beneficient operates as an alternative asset investment platform targeting mid-to-high net worth individuals and small-to-midsized institutions. The company's subsidiary, Beneficient Fiduciary Financial, holds a charter under Kansas' Technology-Enabled Fiduciary Financial Institution Act.
