Leading crypto ETP issuer joins inaugural Bitcoin Staking cohort as institutional participation in Bitcoin-native yield expands

NEW YORK, NY | September 3, 2026 - Stacks today announced that 21shares, one of the world's leading digital asset managers with over $6.5B in assets under management, will participate in the Stacks Genesis Bond, the inaugural institutional cohort for Bitcoin Staking on Stacks.

The participation brings together 21shares' experience building regulated crypto investment products and customised solutions for traditional markets with Stacks' Bitcoin-native infrastructure. Through the Genesis Bond, 21shares will participate in Bitcoin Staking to earn native Bitcoin yield on its Bitcoin treasury holdings.

Bitcoin Staking on Stacks lets Bitcoin holders earn yield paid in BTC while their Bitcoin stays on the Bitcoin blockchain, using STX to unlock staking capacity. The BTC is locked on Bitcoin for a fixed term, remains under the holder's own control, and is returned in full when the term ends. Holders do not need to move their Bitcoin to another network or hand it to a third party in order to earn yield.

"Innovation and early adoption are a core part of 21shares' DNA. As the Bitcoin ecosystem develops, institutional investors are increasingly looking for ways to turn BTC into a productive asset," said Alistair Byas-Perry, Head of EU Investments and Capital Markets at 21shares. "Participating in the Stacks Genesis Bond allows us to add another mechanism to generate native Bitcoin yield. This significantly enhances our customised solutions capabilities, enabling us to offer sophisticated BTC treasury management strategies for institutional allocators looking for productive capital."

The Genesis Bond is designed to demonstrate Bitcoin Staking end to end with institutional participants and infrastructure providers ahead of broader availability. For Stacks, participation from a global crypto ETP issuer like 21shares represents an important step in connecting Bitcoin-native financial infrastructure with the traditional investment ecosystem. "21shares has helped bring crypto assets into regulated investment markets at global scale, which makes their participation in the Genesis Bond particularly meaningful," said Muneeb Ali, Founder of Stacks. "Bitcoin Staking is about creating a new way for BTC to become productive without asking holders to move their principal off Bitcoin. Having institutions like 21shares participate at the beginning is an important signal for where this market can go."

21shares, which oversees more than $6.5 billion in assets under management across over 60 crypto ETPs globally, joins a growing group of institutional participants and infrastructure providers supporting the rollout of Bitcoin Staking on Stacks. The Genesis Bond will launch on September 10, with the first Bitcoin staking bonding period expected to begin in October.
