bioAffinity Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: BIAF) presented research demonstrating its diagnostic platform's ability to identify drug antibody receptors in sputum for asthma therapies at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology annual meeting in Philadelphia on March 1.

The research showed the technology can identify receptors for dupilumab, a therapy for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and benralizumab, another asthma treatment. William Bauta, the company's chief science officer, presented the poster titled "Sputum as a Diagnostic Tool for the Treatment of Asthma."

The San Antonio-based biotechnology company is developing clinical diagnostics aimed at helping physicians match asthma and COPD patients with appropriate therapies and monitor inflammatory changes over time. The technology uses the company's flow cytometry platform with automated artificial intelligence analysis.

"Asthma and COPD impact approximately 650 million children and adults globally," Bauta stated in the company's announcement. "Many patients must try a series of different types of treatments before finding an effective therapy."

bioAffinity Technologies currently markets CyPath Lung, a diagnostic test for lung cancer that uses the same technology platform. Clinical study results showed the test achieved 92% sensitivity, 87% specificity and 88% accuracy in detecting lung cancer in high-risk patients with small indeterminate lung nodules less than 20 millimeters.

The company operates as a biotechnology firm focused on noninvasive diagnostics and early cancer detection. CyPath Lung is marketed as a Laboratory Developed Test through Precision Pathology Laboratory Services, a bioAffinity Technologies subsidiary.
