bioAffinity Technologies receives Hong Kong patent for lung cancer test

bioAffinity Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIAF; BIAFW) announced that the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department has granted a patent for its CyPath® Lung diagnostic technology, which uses flow cytometry and fluorescent markers to detect lung cancer cells in sputum samples.

Hong Kong Patent No. HK40048460, titled "System and Method for Determining Lung Health," covers the use of defined antibodies and the porphyrin TCPP to label cell populations in sputum, along with flow cytometry to determine the presence of lung cancer cells. The patent adds to a Chinese patent the company received in 2025 for the same technology.

Maria Zannes, President and CEO of bioAffinity Technologies, said in a statement: "The grant of this patent in Hong Kong and the 2025 patent we received from China strengthen the intellectual property protection for our technology in Asia, a region with a substantial burden of lung cancer."

According to data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, approximately 1.6 million new lung cancer cases are diagnosed annually across Asia.

CyPath Lung is a noninvasive test marketed as a Laboratory Developed Test and is used to assess the likelihood of malignancy in lung nodules detected by low-dose CT scans. It is offered through Precision Pathology Laboratory Services, a subsidiary of bioAffinity Technologies.

The company's global patent portfolio now includes patents and pending applications in the United States, Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, Japan, Mexico, and Singapore, in addition to Hong Kong.
