Vertiv Holdings Co (NYSE: VRT) and Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) signed a strategic collaboration agreement to develop integrated energy optimization solutions for AI data centers, according to a press release statement.

The partnership combines Vertiv's power distribution and cooling systems with Caterpillar's power generation equipment and its subsidiary Solar Turbines' combined cooling, heat and power technology. The companies will offer pre-designed modular architectures to reduce deployment time and optimize data center performance.

Under the agreement, Caterpillar and Solar Turbines will supply natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines for electric power and thermal energy. Vertiv will provide power and cooling solutions packaged as standardized modules to accelerate installation timelines.

The collaboration targets data centers seeking on-site energy solutions to reduce grid dependence. The integrated approach aims to lower power usage effectiveness through end-to-end system optimization of power, cooling, distribution and load management components.

"This collaboration with Caterpillar and Solar Turbines is a cornerstone of our Bring Your Own Power & Cooling strategy and aligns seamlessly with our grid-to-chip framework by offering resilient, on-site power generation solutions," said Gio Albertazzi, CEO at Vertiv.

Jason Kaiser, group president of Caterpillar Power & Energy, said the partnership will deliver integrated solutions that meet evolving customer needs as AI workloads increase demand for power infrastructure.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize the collaboration structure. Vertiv, headquartered in Westerville, Ohio, operates in more than 130 countries. Caterpillar reported $64.8 billion in sales and revenues for 2024.
