Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the United States maintains a strong dollar policy during a CNBC interview on January 28. Bessent emphasized that this policy involves setting appropriate economic fundamentals rather than direct market intervention.

"US always has a strong dollar policy," Bessent said, explaining that the approach means "setting right fundamentals" to attract capital flows. He added that "if we have sound policies the money will flow into US."

When asked about potential currency intervention in the dollar-yen market, Bessent said the US is "absolutely not" intervening currently. He declined to comment on intervention speculation, following standard Treasury practice.

Bessent noted that the shrinking trade deficit should support the dollar. He attributed recent stock market performance to growth-oriented policies but cautioned that previous years' performance does not determine future outcomes for 2026.

The Treasury Secretary's comments come amid ongoing market attention to dollar weakness.
