Stellantis N.V. (NYSE: STLA) announced a collaboration with NVIDIA, Uber Technologies Inc., and Foxconn to develop Level 4 autonomous vehicles for robotaxi services globally.
The partnership combines Stellantis' vehicle engineering and manufacturing, NVIDIA's autonomous driving software and AI computing, Foxconn's electronics integration capabilities, and Uber's ride-hailing operations expertise.
Under the agreement, Stellantis will design and manufacture autonomous vehicles based on its K0 Medium Size Van and STLA Small AV-Ready Platforms. The vehicles will be powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 autonomous vehicle architecture, including the NVIDIA DriveOS operating system and NVIDIA DRIVE AV software for Level 4 autonomy.
Uber plans to deploy 5,000 Stellantis autonomous vehicles in select cities worldwide, with initial operations beginning in the United States. Production is targeted to start in 2028, with pilot programs and testing expected to ramp up over the coming years.
NVIDIA will provide its DRIVE AV software with Level 4 parking and driving capabilities. Foxconn will collaborate on hardware and systems integration, while Uber will operate the robotaxi services using the Stellantis-built vehicles.
"Autonomous mobility opens the door to new, more affordable transportation choices for customers," said Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis. "We have built AV-Ready Platforms to meet growing demand, and by partnering with leaders in AI, electronics, and mobility services, we aim to create a scalable solution that delivers smarter, safer, and more efficient mobility for everyone."
The companies signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding that establishes the framework for future agreements covering technology development, licensing, production, and vehicle procurement. Each company retains flexibility to pursue additional collaborations in autonomous driving.
This initiative follows Stellantis' recent partnership with Pony.ai to develop and test Level 4 autonomous vehicles in Europe, announced earlier this month.
